Our school is a small K-8 school in the heart of the central valley of California. We are surrounded by dairies and farms just outside of our little town!
Being a small school brings such a unique experience to our students as we have a family atmosphere!
We are able to bring older students together with younger students ways most schools are unable to do. It really works to bring about a community of learners rather just a bunch of people attending the same place.
My Project
In an active classroom, the level of noise often rises too high. Teachers are constantly over-using their voices to be heard above the working noise that happens every day. I have implemented a system that can change the course of my classroom and save my voice!
Using my iPad connected to a sound bar via bluetooth, I can signal my students to transition time without needing to raise my voice or startle them.
The sound bar is a long speaker that will connect to my iPad wirelessly via bluetooth. Once speaker and iPad are paired, the speaker will amplify music and sounds played through the iPad.
I already have a calming wind chime noise app ready to use. Students know this cue means it is time to clean up and meet at the carpet area. The struggle is making sure it is heard over the noise of working students as iPad speakers are too weak to go throughout the classroom. Having the speaker system will allow me to signal transition time from my location while resonating throughout the classroom for all students to hear.
