The school and community in which I teach is economically and culturally diverse. There are numerous resources for children to gain experiences and knowledge. My students are bright, hard-working, supportive of one another, and have a love for learning.
My students are very tech savvy!
I regularly integrate technology into lessons to help prepare my students for 21st century learning as well as increase engagement. There are numerous ways to use technology as a teaching tool and platform for student collaboration.
My Project
Speaking and listening standards are integrated throughout all subject areas. Students learn from each other by sharing their knowledge and experiences. However, some students lack confidence in verbally sharing their thoughts and ideas. Perhaps they are an English language learner or they feel nervous when speaking in groups.
I have participated in several professional development sessions on integrating technology into instruction.
Many students thrive when given the opportunity to access technology to help them communicate. I would like for my students to create videos using websites such as Flipgrid and Seesaw. These sites allow students to make a video recording and add text to their activity. Students can explain how they solved a math problem, reflect on the lesson, share a book review, and more! Those who have permission to view the work can make comments as well as learn from each other. This platform also gives students guided practice on how to comment on a classmates' work in a constructive and supportive manner. Parents can also get a glimpse into their child's learning as students create a digital portfolio of assignments.
I am fortunate to teach in a school where each of my students has access to a Chromebook. However, when an entire class records a video at the same time, the background noise interferes with the recording. Oftentimes my students and I have trouble clearly hearing the video presentation. If we had a class set of headsets with an attached microphone, that would allow for more successful video recordings and a better listening and learning experience.
