As of March 3, 2014, each of my thirty-three 3rd graders has access to their very own iPad! As 21st Century Learners, we are collaborating, communicating, critically thinking, and problem solving daily. Earbuds with splitters will allow students the opportunity to create together.
I love my class of 22 boys and 11 girls!
Their enthusiasm for learning continues to inspire me to design engaging lessons integrating technology into the curriculum. This trimester, we have begun the implementation of the Common Core Language Arts and Math standards. Students are being challenged and asked questions that require them to refer back to the text or model how they solve a math problem. Using apps such as Educreations and ShowMe allow the students to record their voices as they explain the steps to solve a problem or answer a comprehension question. Listening to and sharing these recordings with others will only reinforce the learning of these rigorous standards.
My Project
My students are equipped with the essential hardware and are currently able to create as individuals. If funded, the requested 45 earbuds and 16 headphone splitters will enable my students numerous opportunities to collaborate in pairs and/or small groups. They will be able to create puppet shows or animated movies with the apps Puppet Pals, Sock Puppets, and Toontastic. In addition, they will be able to produce movie trailers and short movies using the app iMovie. With the earbuds, students will be able to practice reading fluency by recording their voices and evaluate how well they read aloud with expression.
These donations will provide my students with endless opportunities to collaborate and create meaningful projects using their iPads.
My hope is that using technology and 21st century learning will empower my students and make them active participants in the learning process.
