My students need a portable speaker for the larger music therapy groups, a voice amplifier to be able to hear me while I sing and give instructions, and a set of chimes for sensory stimulation.
Music therapy is an evidence-based practice by a board certified music therapist that can address a variety of non-musical goals for a variety of populations. My students range in age from 3-22 and have varying diagnoses. Many of my students are non-verbal and require significant supports to be successful in their everyday lives.
In music therapy, my students are able to get specialized instruction addressing their academic, social, physical, communication, and emotional goals.
Music is able to reach so many individuals in so many ways; it has been shown to be incredibly effective in the special education population!
Our sessions can range anywhere from one-on-one instruction to small group to large group instruction. We use a variety of instruments and musical mediums to work on our goals and have so much fun in the process!
My Project
Many of my students have severe developmental and physical impairments that make engaging in a "typical" setting quite challenging. Having a new portable speaker will allow for our recorded music to be heard at a volume that every student will have the opportunity to hear and then engage in our sessions! In addition to speakers for our recorded music times, a personal amplifier will allow my singing voice to be loud and clear for all students to hear songs and instructions. Finally, my students who have sensory input needs will greatly enjoy a set of tone chimes to play! They can feel the vibrations and hear the pure tones to allow for a calmer body and a sense of comfort.
