Can You Hear Me Now: Kissing Reading Jitters Good Bye!
My students need a portable PA stereo system, an audio cord, 180 days of Reading for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade, and Phonics DVD Rock and learn to build their confidence in reading a loud.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are low-income, high poverty dreamers. We are at a Title 1 school. Our school is over 95% free lunch. Some of our students depend on our school for needs that cannot be met at home. My students have been identified as students with Special Needs.
Although they have to deal with a lot of issues at home, I have taught them that they must defend any of their dreams.
It is challenging for me to see their struggles, but I fight to show them that they are capable of achieving anything with a little help. Our students face trauma that affects their learning daily. Their mindsets are fight, freeze, or flight when they deal with issues at school. I strive to teach my students resilience every day because of their situations at home.
My Project
Do you remember when your teacher asked you to read in front of the classroom? How your heart was beating fast and your hands were clammy. Well my students have trouble reading and are currently reading below grade level. They struggle with having the confidence enough to read books not their current grade level. So it is my hope that the items in this project will build their confidence in Reading and help them to be great public readers and speakers one day.
Reading through a portable PA mic allows students to be able to know that they have a voice and they sound great reading.
My students will be able to use the 180 days of Reading materials for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades to help them build a stronger foundation with the vital vowel sounds and blends necessary to be great readers.
