Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in our community are eager learners and athletes. They love to come out to participate in our Girls on the Run program. Our program is varied and includes multi-disciplinary skills which incorporate Math, Health Sciences, Character Building, Self-Image and Community Leadership. We begin focusing on individual skills then transfer the learning and form great teamwork together. Because the students come from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, they approach body image, values, and self concept differently. We build on those differences to create strong, female leaders in our school and community.
My Project
This project buys 2 way radios for two more teachers in my school. We are working on procedures for school shut downs, due to intruders, severe weather drills, and fire drills as I imagine many schools are doing across the nation.
We have drills and practice locking all doors, hiding away from the door, and alerting the office to the location and safety of every students.
When this happens, the teachers need communication devices to contact the office.
Having two way radios for more teachers that connect to the office will go a long way to alleviate our concerns, if and when a tragedy might strike. We believe that kids come first, and safety is part of that.
