Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school provides necessities that serve our community of underprivileged children. While our facilities are brand new, our school is considered Title I, making the majority of our student population economically disadvantaged.
Literacy suffers tremendously in our community due to a lack of resources that truly motivate students to read.
The number of students who are reading below grade level is growing each year, and as a reading advocate, it's my role to thrill these young minds with literacy skills that will grow them into expert readers and writers!
My students are enthusiastic, thoughtful, and willing to work hard to learn!
My Project
"Can you hear it now?" This is a question I am constantly asking my students as we swim through the headphone chaos, trying to sort through the ones that work and do not work. In our current classroom setup, we have five classroom computers and 20 learning tablets that we share. We use these devices daily for reading intervention, reading motivation, and educational games. While we have the technology to fuel our minds, a constant concern from my students is that they cannot hear what the program is asking them to do. This is because our supply of classroom headphones is dwindling due to excessive use and poor supply.
Most of my students cannot afford their own headphones, so I try my best to supply them with what I can.
But as the year progresses, we just can't keep up.
My students need nice, reliable headphones to complete their intervention games, our monthly assessments, and play educational games. These headphones would directly impact the 40 students that I serve. I can just see the looks on their little faces when they realize that they have BRAND NEW headphones just for them to use in class daily! It will alleviate the embarrassment of not being able to afford your own pair or being grossed out by having to "share" ear-buds with another student. The positive impact of a simple device such as headphones can do so much!!!!
