Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"What is a cassette?" Can you believe our students don't know what a cassette tape is? I have so many books on tape but have nothing to play them on. I want my students to be able to continue listening to these great stories at a listening center but need a tape player in order for this to occur.
We are part of K-5 grade elementary school.
My students are the youngest of kindergartners, those born between September and December. These students have two years to master the kindergarten standards. Our key focus is to help these students not only develop in their academics but more importantly help them develop their oral, social and emotional skills. For most of my students this is their first schooling experience. They are very happy, energetic students that enjoy school. They like listening to stories, singing and dancing throughout the day. They have a short attention span and need a variety of activities throughout the day to keep them engaged and focused on learning.
My Project
The cassette player would allow my students to listen to books on tape. After I read a story to them, they usually want to listen to it over and over again. The tape player would allow the students the opportunity to be at a listening center and replay their favorite stories as many times as they wanted to hear them during literacy center time. The wireless speaker would make it easier to listen to songs and chants without waiting for the teacher to connect speakers and fumble with wires. The speaker would also help when listening to educational videos or movies from our classroom laptop.
The donations would increase the learning of my current and future students by allowing them access to a variety of stories on tape.
They would learn how to independently turn pages in the books and follow through in a story. By listening to these stories they would also be acquiring vocabulary and reading skills. These skills would help them develop a strong foundation in reading for the coming years. The speaker would allow more students access to listening to stories, songs and videos.
