This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an innovation school this year. This means that our school has been given a chance to provide even more meaningful opportunities to the students in our boundaries. Students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch. I have a classroom of fourth grade students that range in all different ability levels. Our school is also a Project Restore School. Each week students take math tests and are also assessed on reading skills. Both are cumulative and rigorous, which means skills cannot be forgotten and are always practiced.
My Project
Each student comes into my classroom with different abilities. My job is to make sure I meet each student on his/her level and help them achieve in all subject areas. Reading is an important and essential subject in school. Having a classroom full of students with differing abilities makes finding the right book for all students to enjoy impossible. With these leveled reading books, my students will have more choices of text that are on their reading level. My students will be able to regain their love for reading while challenging themselves to become better readers.
Students will be able to choose a "just right" book for them to improve their fluency, stamina, and confidence so they can move to the next reading level.
These texts will provide more opportunities in guided reading groups for me to give strategies and help struggling students. No more settling for any book. Each student will feel like they have found a book written just for them.
