My Students

My children are all non-verbal. Just because they can't speak doesn't mean they can't communicate. They need a variety of ways to communicate and switches and augmentative devices are their access to the world. The children are able to make requests and choices when given the chance.

These children are physically disabled.

They have multiple physical disabilities and severe cognitive impairments. all of the children are in wheelchairs and need adults to assist them in all areas of living and learning. They need all kinds of technology to be able to express themselves and to become as independent as possible. The children are in a special class within a regular elementary school. We are located in the state of Florida.

My Project

The switches and the communication board will allow the children to convey information, make requests and make choices. This will allow some independent functioning with out the adults having to guess what they may want or need. Having a way to communicate with others will open up the world to the children.

The students will be able to learn to use the different devices and communicate with some sense of independence.

All children can and do learn when given the chance. Even the most disabled children are able to learn.
