My Students

"Can we please read just one more chapter!" This was music to my ears when I had a classroom full of seventh graders ask me this question. My students were engaged, eager to learn and just wanted to keep reading! My students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures but they all have one thing in common, they love to learn! We are from an urban community full of diversity where 68% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

When my students hear how excited I am about a book or topic, they become just as excited and as eager to learn as me.

Each day brings challenges, but challenges bring rewards. I try to instill this onto my students each day.

My Project

Teaching reading in middle school is a difficult job, but having high-interest books that the students can connect to make it a bit easier and a lot more fun! Finding books that students will enjoy is one thing, but having enough for everyone in the class is quite another.

Donations to my project will help provide my students with books that they can make meaningful connections to and enjoy during their time in my class.

Reading can be a difficult task when you cannot relate to the content and characters. I would like to provide my class with enjoyable literature that will make them excited to come to my class and read everyday.
