Ms. Peter from Sacramento CA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need colored markers and pencils for the new school year.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Celebration happens every time students "get" to color in their very own drawings. But all of our markers have lost their ink and our pencils are too short to sharpen.
My students attend a Title 1 charter school in a neighborhood that wants to see their children graduate from college, many of whom will be the first in their family.
My students know we are very fortunate to have art classes, and they work very hard. Our elementary campus serves over 300 K-5 students, each of whom receives regular art instruction. Despite the rigorous academic load and longer school days, our students arrive every morning with smiles, ready to learn.
These coloring supplies will be used regularly throughout this school year and next as students create personal, inventive, and dynamic works of art. With these supplies, my students will learn to apply value, line, color, and texture to their drawings. The new supplies will end the unnecessary frustration of trying to get color from fading pens and too-short pencils. Many projects also connect with academic learning, reinforcing standards from ELA, Science, Social Sciences, and Math. These materials will be used in a variety of projects this year including: Positive Self-Portraits, 5th Grade Science Sun Drawings, Russian Architecture, 2nd Grade Sea Life Drawings, 3rd Grade Portraiture with Value and Shading, 1st Grade "Our Neighbors" drawings of people and architecture, 4th Grade Color Theory Stars, 2nd Grade Pizza Fractions, 4th Grade Wrapping Paper Designs, and 5th Grade Half and Half Drawings.
Our students grow tremendously in skill and confidence as they learn art.
Simple drawing supplies are a necessity for every child's development and artistic expression. Help them create in color!
