I have 25 awesome fourth graders. Most of my students come from low-income families. These are hard-working students who just need a few basic items to get ahead in school. They are eager to learn and can't wait to be introduced to new things. They are always so appreciative of any new materials that we bring in or are donated to our classroom. I just want to see them have the same opportunities as every student in the world should.
My students are coming to class without pencils. These students come from low income families and find it hard to have all the tools they need for class each day. Students without the proper tools can not properly learn. They have to be able to put their ideas on paper and that is hard when you don't have a good pencil.
Now how do I sharpen all of these new pencils.
We also need a new pencil sharpener because the one that I found in a storage room had died! My students are having to take valuable learning time going across the hallway to sharpen their pencils in another classroom.
