Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse group of third-grade students from a small farming community in northern California. We do not allow our financial backgrounds or differences to hold us back from achieving our goals. We are part of the No Excuses University program.

Our public school has a large number of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Many students are not able to bring much needed supplies from home in order to be successful in school. We enjoy reading, writing, doing math, as well as learning about science, history, and technology.

My Project

During the month of February, I teach my students about dental hygiene. We do an experiment that involves placing eggs in various liquids and seeing what happens to the shell. At the end of the experiment, students learn the importance of brushing their teeth daily. We also talk about the proper way to brush their teeth and tongue.

It is easier to create positive habits now than trying to break bad habits later.

By having toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss available for my students, they will have the materials they need to brush properly and keep their pearly white smile.
