Can I Have A Pencil? Nope, We Don't Have Any!

Help me give my students basic classroom supplies to ease the financial burden on families and make sure every child has what they need to learn.

My Students

My students are a lively group of second graders who are excited about learning. They all come from an area with high poverty, so they receive most of their basic needs while at school. We have a lot of fun learning and love to spend time doing centers, singing educational songs and creating art.

My students learn best when they are given the opportunity to explore, move, and create.

We get up and move around a lot while we learn to help us stay focused and excited about school. My class is full of students who have very kind hearts and practice kindness every day. We have a close classroom community and love to learn and grow every day together.

My Project

Many of my students come to school without having their basic needs met. Most eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner from our cafeteria and receive snacks from their teacher. Asking families to supply the classroom with basic necessities like pencils, whiteboard markers, crayons, and paper is not an option.

At the beginning of the year I supplied my room with all of the necessities for my class, but have recently run out and supplies are running thin.

My students deserve to have pencils long enough to put in a pencil sharpener and whiteboard markers that consistently work during their math and reading centers. We would love to use the construction paper to complete art projects, and replenish our shortening crayon supply.

With these supplies my students will have access to the materials they need to learn, but they will also learn responsibility for belongings. Since we share all of our classroom supplies, students are taught to return items to where they are found in great condition. This is a skill they will need as they prepare for future grades and careers.
