Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school offers an academically rigorous program whose goal is to get students high school ready, college ready, and career ready. In order to accomplish this goal, all students have access to our four pillars of learning – character development, technology, accelerated curriculum, and foreign language. Each pillar represents an engaging and rigorous learning program that ensures students think critically and creatively, problem-solve collaboratively, and communicate effectively.
As a PBIS school, we have developed and implemented proactive behavioral supports and a positive social culture so that all students achieve social, emotional and academic success.
As a result of our efforts, in 2017 we received the California PBIS Coalition Silver Award. We added this year the distinguished honor of becoming a Schools to Watch, making us a high-performing model school which demonstrates academic excellence, developmental responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents, social equity, and organizational support. Our school will host visitors from California and around the world who are looking to replicate practices to improve their schools and close the achievement gap. The STW-TCS program is sponsored by the California League of Middle Schools and the California Department of Education, in partnership with the California Middle Grades Alliance.
My Project
Our school is a wonderful place to learn. We come together each day as a team of learners to nurture and instill a sense of pride and respect for self and community.
The requested couch, bean bags and storage ottomans will be used to create a collegiate type of environment for friendly game competition, intended to generate conversation between the players, and engage the students in a battle of logic.
When students take advantage of all the opportunities at school, actively engage in their learning, apply their skills and knowledge, and make positive choices along the way, success in any endeavor will result, whether here at school or in the future. Our game room will require our students to collect and present Pawsitive tickets. These tickets are given to all students who demonstrate positive academic and social expectations.
