The students in my third-grade class are a mix of creativity and curiosity with a dash of individuality added into the room. They love to be challenged, and their faces light up when I announce a new project. I am inspired as a teacher when I see their enthusiasm when art and reading is incorporated into our learning.
Even though my students are grateful for all we have, the lack of art education hinders their creativity.
My students love learning anything new, especially when art is involved, and they beam with pride as we display their art work throughout our hallway.
My Project
Each year, our school holds a Camp-Read-A-Lot week. Tents are set up, and our library is TRANSFORMED into an enchanted, mystical land. This year's theme was Treasure Island (as you can see from the picture, my class took an ordinary tent and changed it into Mermaid Island - loaded with colorful coral and lots of GLITTER). I am requesting glitter, card stock, and storage containers that are needed to create magical, decorated tents and props for this special week-long event in our school.
Because our Art Program was removed at the elementary level, the students look forward to painting, glittering, and drawing as they prepare for this special week.
The students take turns sitting in the tents while they read their favorite books. Also, during the week, we have special guest readers. This project requires loads of art supplies!!
This project combines reading, art, and collaboration. You can't imagine the look on my students' faces when they walk into our library and see how their work came together!
