My Students
This is my first year as the media specialist/school librarian at an elementary school in Atlanta, Georgia, and our students are inquisitive and want to learn. When they see books, they become excited and their eyes light up!
Our students are loving, kind, and exceptionally polite!
They want to please their teachers and care about producing quality work. Additionally, our students have no problems with asking for help when they need it, which is a major "plus" in my eyes!
My Project
As a media specialist/school librarian, it is important for me to share my love of reading with every student that I serve each day. It excites me when students stop by the media center/library to let me know what books they are reading, as well as to get assistance with finding books based on their Lexile and/or grade level. I pour my entire being into my students' eagerness and thirst for learning.
One of my favorite parts of my job is planning activities that allow students to learn while having fun.
classroom tents will give students that "special spark" to read even more, as they "camp out" in the media center. The tents' pops of color, interesting patterns, and simply being "different furniture" will lure students to the media center/library in droves, as they check out books to read in their personal nook (tent.) Having a fun and colorful space for children also gives me the opportunity to impact student achievement, as they make meaning of words.
