Many students struggle with writing. Using photography as a writing tool allows students to picture their vision before they write about it.
Located in California, our middle school supports and craves the use of technology in the classroom.
But when budget cuts push class sizes to maximum capacity and pesky mice insist on visiting our campus, we simply have no funding for any extras.
My sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes are all a part of Tech Crew, a technology-integrated elective I created to engage students in collaborative projects that cultivate the high tech skills they need for career success. The students represent a wide range of abilities, but value each others unique talents. We are a true community of collaborative innovators preparing for our futures.
My Project
The five digital cameras and memory cards I requested will be used by six classrooms for many years as students participate in innovative writing lessons that integrate photography. For example, eighth graders will pose as Ellis Island immigrants and use trick photography to place themselves in historical images then write from an immigrant's perspective. Sixth graders will use their classmates as actors to recreate events from their own life before writing personal narratives.
The arts are dwindling in our schools, but you can help make a difference.
I am not an art teacher. There are not many of those left. I strive to integrate art into my writing curriculum so that students can learn through the arts in my class as they improve their writing. Thank you so much for considering a donation to my project!
