Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

Savannah and Ava are eagerly cultivating their independent learning and regional awareness at our school. They are true leaders who want to showcase their amazing talents. As underclassmen, they have established positive relationships with their peers and educators. These two scholars are incredibly eloquent and are fighting for what's right! They want the world to be a better place and are working hard in their own way to establish a finite example of what leadership looks like for them. Just phenomenal young ladies!

My school ignites passion in each of its students. Providing us the opportunity to excel in a learning environment that is developing a culture to embrace each student's unique passions and potential. Many of our wonderful teachers sponsor and administer the after-school clubs designed to captivate students and lead us towards success. However, teacher sponsored clubs tend to lack funding. Translating into an immense limitation on projects because of a lack of financial resources. For example, cameras for yearbook club. Students such as myself face the reality of limitation when it comes to building a path towards our passions. The academic skill that our project will develop is a mastery of marketing and advertising which will prepare our students for college and future careers. Additionally, we are working on building our team through collaboration.

In Their Own Words

As a junior and a sophomore, we’ve experienced a major role in community progress projects such as our annual duck race hosted by our Excel Club, the Exchange Club of America. Yet, the memories created by my classmates are lost, forgotten, depleted without documentation because our yearbook club is severely underfunded and lacks digital cameras for documentation purposes. We are trying to get a digital camera and lenses for our yearbook team.

Being 21st-century students, we love to document our yearly accomplishments, memories, and rewards through photography. In turn, we immensely enjoy collaborating over photographs of our school year. However, with an underfunded yearbook, we only have access to one borrowed camera and now one new digital camera (which we acquired through our first completed DonorsChoose) which greatly limits the possibilities of photos taken. Only having 2 cameras to document a school of 520 students is limiting; only having 2 cameras can prove to be a difficult choice when multiple events are happening on one day such as volleyball games, Theatre performances, and school-wide events. How do you choose?

Which is why we, the yearbook team would like to ask you to consider being a participant in the funding of a new camera. Thank you for your participation in the furthering of my school, my community and the promise of a brighter tomorrow where students can succeed in a learning environment that fosters the culture for our own passions. We will be able to take more photographs of events that happen throughout our school year.
