My students need new cameras so we can roll out a one to one program where each filming crew has access to their own camera.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th graders from TMS have joined our Falcon Films Digital Media class with the goal of creating daily news broadcasts that are viewed school wide as our morning announcements. It is through their desire and passion for filming, editing, and video production that this program is growing far beyond its original parameters.
Falcon Films is “our class” because we each share a unique responsibility for making the class and all of our productions the best they can be.
These incredibly hard working students are regularly dedicate additional time outside the class period which ensures that individuals and groups create high-quality projects.
Falcon Films is about story telling. We will imagine, write, design, use narrative skills and create our own videos in a digital environment for an ever-expanding audience. This course encourages my kids to pursue vocations in journalism, marketing, and public broadcasting, while supporting their desires to apply to our feeder high school’s Career Pathway in Arts, Media, and Entertainment Program.
My Project
The students of my Falcon Films class are incredibly hardworking and dedicated to their craft. We have eleven film crews consisting of three students each. Beyond creating morning announcements on a daily basis, we strive to create fun videos that stretch the boundaries of our students creativity. Thus far we have created music videos, parodies, short films, movie trailers, youtube videos, and mystery reveal videos. My students are currently working on anti bullying videos. However with each project we create my students are constantly competing for camera time. We have eleven filming crews however we only have six cameras to be shared between them. This makes for a stressful environment for the kids as deadlines approach and they find themselves without a camera but still needing to film scenes. It is my hope that by this time next year, my students have a 1:1 camera to film crew ratio.
