Energy, ideas, and excitement... those describe my class amazingly well. My students love the idea of non-stop learning, pushing themselves to do more, trying new things, and designing their own projects. In letters to me, the frequent comment was "What I don't want to learn in computers? Nothing!"
My students are held to high standards and they continue to amaze me every day with what they achieve.
We are working on utilizing technology to help our students become independent researchers and learners rather than passive recipients of the information. Our middle school students, come from varied backgrounds. Most have computers and Internet access available at home, but their use of technology has been limited to games and social networking such as Facebook and Instagram. Our populations of students with special needs and students coming to us below grade level have been increasing, and our number of English Language Learners has also increased.
My Project
In my computer classes, the digital media arts class, the after school robotics club, and the summer GIRL camp, video planning, and creation units are the most popular. Projects they do include public service announcements and guides (one of the funniest was about how NOT to talk to girls), stories, anti-smoking and anti-drug campaigns, how robots can change the world, and more. Students learn the basics of filming but use their personal cell phones.
My students currently have access to no DLSR cameras and would benefit from having some.
With over 30 students in each class period, more cameras would support more groups! They would also utilize the tripods that we have well. They need to learn how much better the filming is when the camera is steady. Your donation gives more students access to materials that they wouldn't get to use at home or in other classes, and we appreciate the opportunity.
