My school is located in Brooklyn, New York. We are a high-poverty, high-needs school.
As a history teacher, sparking student interest is often times difficult. As we approach the study of The Progressive Era, students will be called on to be modern day muckrakers and bring to light some issues people face in today's society. Many of my students cannot afford cameras and due to recent budget cuts the school cannot buy any cameras.
My students need a camera, an Olympus Stylus Black, to be used to create a photo show. With your help, my students can use this camera on a rotating basis, and while reading "The Jungle," explore modern day situations through the lense of a camera. This will also prepare them for college because this will force the student to not rely on a textbook but analyze issues and situations around them.
Only you can help my students reach their full potential and experience this part of the project. My students will be enabled to learn from the areas around them and this will make them stronger citizens. They will use the pictures they compile, and put together a show using their photos.
