My students need the exercise pedal bike to use as a coping tool during times of anger/frustration. This piece of equipment will provide good proprioceptive input allowing them to return to class more regulated & focused.
My students are some of the most grateful and kind kiddos- who often come from low income and underprivileged families. This would be challenging for a "normal" functioning child, so it is extraordinarily difficult for my students. I serve students with a variety of abilities. Most often, I work with students who have self-regulation disorders/ EBD, Anxiety, ADHD, and Fine/Gross and Visual motor difficulties. When starting out in the field of OT I never thought I'd be in a school setting but I am so so so glad I ended up here! My students bring me so much joy and happiness. When they make progress reaching their academic and functional school goals I feel so rewarded!
Many of my students do not have access to outside Occupational Therapy due to cost/insurance, etc.
I strive everyday to provide the best therapy to my students. As an OT practitioner in the school setting, I not only feel the need to support the child in academics, but also as an outlet where they can feel safe to come to me with anything they may be struggling with. Overall, they are great kids, and deserve the best!
My Project
The items in my cart will provide my students with the ability to remain in their General Ed classrooms for a longer period of time. The Chew Brick Chewable Pencil Toppers & Sensory Chew Necklace will facilitate calming input for my students who tend to become anxious during challenging academics. The tactile fidgets (BeYumi Marble Fidget Toy) will increase my students ability to maintain focus and decrease the need to invade their peers space. The Stamina Mini Exercise Bike will facilitate proprioceptive input during times of frustration and increase sensory integration allowing them to be more inclusive in their own classroom.
