Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, determined, and amazing children. They love to move and to play. They enjoy school because they love learning in so many different ways. They are amazing because they show up to school with a smile on their faces no matter what their circumstances are at home! For many of my students, school is their safe haven.
I teach in a low-income urban area.
My students face many challenges in and out of school. Many of my students also speak another language at home but we use their bilingual capabilities to enhance their learning. They are determined to learn as much as they can so they can apply their education outside of school!
My Project
Many of my students have so many things happening in their personal lives that can directly effect their education. Some students are very fortunate in the fact that they know how to manage their feelings. Other students need assistance or coaching before they are able to do so, even in third grade.
I want to create a calming corner that I will use to help teach students different ways to help calm themselves after an anger outburst or an anxiety attack.
The exercise mini bike and resistance tube bands allow students to have a safe outlet for their anger. The stress balls help both anger and anxiety. The printer ink will allow me to print colored pictures of calming areas and quotes that will be hung up in the corner. The floor lamp and the light filters will help calm the lighting in my classroom as a whole. This project is a great opportunity for my students that have autism to have a calming outlet within our room or for other students who need assistance managing their anger in a safe way.
