My Students
I work with an amazing group of students within the Paterson Public School system. The school is currently in a high poverty neighborhood however, they work tremendously hard to overcome various obstacles daily.
All of my students are on the Autism Spectrum and are working to overcome their learning differences.
I see their motivation to get past their communication differences to connect with their school community. With your support, I hope to help my students reach their full potential and fully participate in all school activities.
My Project
With an ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) student population, children face difficulty with expressive and receptive communication, sensory integration deficits and social/emotional challenges. This can result in heightened levels of anxiety.
With yoga, my students can increase their strength, balance, coordination, social-emotional skills, body awareness and reduce their anxiety.
By implementing and enforcing a yoga program within the classroom curriculum, can present a reduction in challenging behaviors. Practicing yoga in the class will not only support them in feeling more calm but also support the family at home. Yoga sessions will be encouraged as calming exercises for students to practice home.
