Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a second year teacher in a low-income school district, there are many resources that my students need to use to learn in order to become successful. This includes resources such as technology, writing utensils, reading materials, mathematics manipulatives, and structural materials to create an organized, comfortable and inviting classroom. Teaching in a low-income school district means that my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. I want to provide my students with essential learning utensils to help them succeed.

My classroom will include twenty-four compassionate, creative, and eager learners who want to be successful and change the world.

In my classroom, my students face a number of challenges. Ninety percent of my students come to school knowing English as their second language. Many of my students are homeless or live in a multi-family household with limited resources. Some come from households where they are raised by a single parent who works two or three jobs. Despite these challenges, my students are dedicated to learning and make the best out of all situations. Having more resources for these children will help them be more confident and successful learners. Let's help them meet their goals!

My Project

My students are in need of headphones and basic art supplies. Having headphones for each student will help them to be more engaged and independent during both literacy and math workshop time. During reading workshop, they get to listen and follow along to books read to them on the computers and having headphones will allow them to really concentrate on the story's meaning. During math workshop, headphones will be helpful so they will be able to concentrate on the problem without having the noise distractions from all of the other computers playing out loud.

My students also are in need of new basic art materials such as pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and markers.

I have a very creative and artistic group of students this year and they really enjoy calming coloring so I would love to provide them with these coloring books as well. Coloring has been proven to help calm the body down and reduce stress!

My students will use these materials on a daily basis and will allow them to work independently while I support a small guided group in both reading and math instruction.

These headphones, basic art supplies, and coloring books are very durable supplies so I will be able to use them for a long time. Thank you for your consideration to help my kiddos become the best they can be!
