Our students are amazing! Many of them have persevered through the challenging situations that life has thrown at them. They are truly my heroes! Our school is a therapeutic school for special needs students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students typically attend our school due to challenging behaviors in general education buildings. These behaviors are often physically or verbally aggressive, either towards staff members and/or students and themselves.
Most students that come to our school have typically experienced traumatic events in their lives and/or suffer from mental health disabilities.
The goal of our school is to determine effective interventions so that students can transition back to their general education settings.
Our students are amazing! Some times they struggle with emotional regulation and communicating how they are feeling. To assist them with these needs, our school has created a sensory room. The goal of a sensory room is not only to provide students with a calm and safe location, but to provide prescribed sensory activities that allow students to learn to manage their minds and bodies in a peaceful and relaxed manner.
This project will provide our students with more options to calm their minds and bodies while meeting their sensory needs.
Items such as the balance boards, etch a sketch, and infinity mirrors will be in our sensory room, so that all student at our school can access the items when they are needed. These items will stimulate multiple senses allowing for students to be present and able to use their bodies effectively in their environment.
