Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a school counselor, I have the pleasure to work all of our students Kinder through 8th grade and a major commonality is their resilience through all these changes and expectations they have been confronted with. I am amazed at their engagement and hunger to learn even through new means of technology. They truly are an inspiration.
My Project
With these trying times I have seen an increase in our students becoming easily agitated and upset in their homes. Many parents have shared that they have seen an increase in the amount of tantrums and/or arguments with their children.
With the opportunity to have a calming kit at home, students can engage their 5 senses in order to turn down intense emotions.
This calming kit will have a variety of items that will allow them to use each of their senses to help regulate their emotions.
Teaching children self regulation and learning to calm themselves down is a lifelong skill that helps creates a more positive relationship with their families and peers and in turn help them be more academically engaged.
