I teach at a Title I school in Oklahoma where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have 12 girls and 7 boys in my classroom this year! My students are typically a diverse group consisting of Native American, African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic children.
I have had some very creative and curious students.
The kids in this school love hands-on projects and anything new they can explore. They love coming to my classroom where they are encouraged to learn and grow as members of a community.
In kindergarten, it can be difficult to express emotions. Many times I see kids act out of frustration because they can't express what they're feeling. According to teachstarter.com "Eventually, every child will encounter a time when they experience overwhelming emotions. Without self-regulation or a safe place to escape, these emotions can spiral into a chaotic episode."
I hope to provide a safe place with the materials purchased with this project.
The timer will provide them with a time range to help them regulate their emotions. The sensory/fidget bundle will give them hands on tools to help ease their emotions through tactile items. The cloud pillow will give them a comfortable place to sit and calm down. The assortment of books and the poster will provide them with visual cues.
It is my hope that the materials purchased through this project will help me teach young kids how to deal with and process the many emotions that come with young age.
