This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hello! I am a first-grade teacher to 19 smart and kind students. First grade is a very important year for students. There are so many new and exciting things to learn but also a lot of emotions that come with it. Being 6 or 7 years old, sometimes it is hard for my students to communicate their feelings to me or another adult. Often students feel overstimulated or overwhelmed because of something and struggle to regulate their emotions. As a teacher, I want to help my students to be able to express their emotions in a healthy way. I also would like to give my students tools to help them go from a negative emotion or a positive emotion. Giving my students a "Calming Corner" is a goal of mine so when students are struggling in class with their emotions, they have somewhere in the classroom they can go and help themselves get to a better headspace. I would also love to incorporate "Feelings Journals" into our morning routine. I believe giving students the ability to write down their feelings early on in the morning can help them start their day on the right track and help me understand how my students are doing when they walk into my classroom.
