Help me give my students a space to calm down when visiting the lead teacher in the main office. I would like to create a space in my office that is comfortable for students needing a break.
The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at DHMS are creative, imaginative, full of spirit, brave and resilient. Not to mention that they are full of pride for their community.
They have each other's backs and are not scared to stand up for themselves.
They are becoming young adults and learning valuable life lessons through their experiences here at DHMS.
They are confident and cool and always willing to try their very best at all that they do.
My Project
When students are sent to the main office they can be nervous or upset.
The learning community should be a safe place for all students.
Students come to school with a diverse set of backgrounds, whether they are economical, societal, or cultural. Sometimes those things get in the way.
We know that the best way to communicate with students is when they are calm and relaxed. When students feel like they are safe in their environment they are more willing to open up and express themselves.
I would like to provide this type of environment for my students by creating a calming corner in my office where students can take a break and de-escalate before having those important and meaningful conversations.
