My students are hands-down the best first graders on the planet! I have been so lucky to teach such a smart and kind group of students this year. This community school in is a big family and the students love interacting together everyday.
My class has become scientists, authors, meteorologists, and gone on virtual field trips to places like the Arctic region.
Their inquisitive minds are always on the hunt for new information! Learning through hands-on experiences and projects is our favorite way to learn.
We also work on developing our character daily. Becoming kind citizens who go above and beyond to help each other is a focus in our room. Through Restorative Practices, class circles, and character building exercises my students are learning how to persevere through tough situations, treat others kindly, and be problem solvers in and out of the classroom.
Helping these kiddos learn and grow their brains academically, socially, and emotionally is the best part of my day! We are so excited about what is happening in our classroom and we cant wait to enrich our learning environment.
My Project
The sensory tools, timers, and bean bag, and flexible seating will give all of my students options for how they can recharge and calm their bodies so they are ready to learn! A variety of sensory tools will help students choose what way they need to calm down. Timers will help students keep track of their deep breaths and breaks and come right back to learning. This will give my students the opportunity to take a quick break when they need to, reset or get their sensory needs met, and come back to their learning tasks efficiently.
When our brains and bodies are calm, we are more ready to learn.
It is important that my students feel safe to have their feelings and know that there are tools to help them work through tough emotions.
While learning and growing our brains, we all can get overwhelmed with everything going on academically, socially, and emotionally. I am looking to provide a quiet, safe space for my students to reset, recharge, and refocus.
