My Project

I work with special needs students that are primarily in grades K-3. These were the youngest students when the COVID-19 Pandemic began. These students were greatly impacted by having their primary educational years interrupted. Many did not have access to technology and those that did, struggled to progress due to difficulty learning virtually combined with their disabilities. Now many of them struggle to regulate emotions during the school day. They learn with their senses. Currently, there is not a lot of access to sensory based learning in my classroom. This project will allow access to sensory based reading materials. It will also provide the opportunity to create a Calming Corner in the classroom. This area will be a safe place for students to regulate their emotions with access to sensory tools to help them self-regulate and return to learning in a calm manner.
