My students need flexible seating, headphones, and sensory items to create a comfortable and safe classroom, where they can wiggle, self-calm, and learn all in the same place.
The students I teach are amazing young people who try their very best every day.
I am a kindergarten, first, and second grade special education teacher, teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Delays, Emotional Disabilities and Specific Learning Disabilities.
My students face many challenges and I would like to provide them with the tools necessary to learn and reach success. I enjoy spending every minute possible with these students watching them learn to read, write a simple sentence and count to 100.
My Project
My students need a classroom where they feel comfortable and safe, where they can wiggle, self-calm, and learn all in the same place. The sensory kit will provide the sensory input needed to help them soothe and calm themselves so that they can have the best learning outcome. The headphones will comfortably reduce the volume and intensity of noises for students with auditory sensitivity. The stools will allow my students to rock and tilt in all directions with a unique rounded base design. My students will wiggle while they learn. These stools, headphones, and the sensory kit are the tools missing from my classroom to provide my special students what they need daily to achieve their brightest and fullest potential.
