I teach a full-day class of twenty, pre-k children who are four and five years old. Included in my class are mainstreamed special education children. I teach in a Great Expectation Title I school with ninety percent of the students receiving free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches. Our school is a high poverty school.
My students are very curious and eager to learn but they are only able to sit still for short periods of time.
Pre-K students learn best by being able to work in active centers where they can manipulate materials.
I am requesting a comfortable, eye appealing, calming group time carpet with leaves and natural colors. Each week I plan, organize and set up literacy and math centers in my classroom so that my students may actively enjoy and participate in small groups. In these centers, they work on literature, story telling, alphabet letters and sounds, letter formation, rhyming words, syllables, creative writing, fine motor coordination, counting, patterns, etc. These centers need to offer stimulating, fun activities to keep my pre-k students' attention.
My group time area also serves as an area for literacy and math center work and needs a carpet to mark the area.
I need a comfortable, calming, carpet in natural colors. I am requesting this carpet to help me provide a calming, appealing learning environment. My students will use this carpet for large and small group literacy and math activities.
