Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love serving as the counselor of a diverse group of over 440 kinder-6th grade students at my school and have loved the opportunity I was given to move from an office to a classroom last year. Students, staff, and parents come to my room for classes, individual counseling, group counseling, and meetings. I would love to add to the calm, warm, and inviting space I have been working to create.
I strive to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with my students, their families, and our staff.
It is important to me that my room is a place that our kids want to come to when they need help throughout their day. Our staff works hard to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where all students know they are loved and cared for when they walk through our doors.
My Project
I would like to add calming lighting and a variety of cool down items to help students more easily regulate their behaviors when they come into my room. Changing up what students experience with their senses helps them to more quickly regulate their behaviors.
By adding softer lighting, calming music and sounds, fresh scents, and a variety of cool down items, I hope my room will be exactly what our students need to help them get back in control when they have flipped their lids and need a safe space to regulate their feelings.
