This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Everyday, I support students who are in distress while at school, who need someone to talk to and help them regulate their emotions. But sometimes the setting in which I try to help students self-soothe is not the most inviting.

By supporting this project, you are providing students with a safe space that enhances and quickens their ability to calm down so that they can return to class and focus on their learning.

I have noticed that when students are seeking for a place to calm down, they often choose to sit on the floor. Although we currently have a rug, it only fits one student at a time and a larger rug would allow for mores students and groups to take place in our wellness center. The lighting and chairs can make a big difference in helping someone calm down; all we have is harsh fluorescent lighting that is not conducive to a calming area. Plus, students will have items such as stress balls and glitter jars to further enhance their self-soothing. This will be a place that uplifts students!
