This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a school based social worker and support in the mental health needs of our students. We would benefit from having a calm down corner to support in their coping skills and regulation skills. Our students come from a myriad of backgrounds and sometimes just need a bit of comfort and time to de-stress. The world since the pandemic is so different than before and I see a lot of connection seeking and support needed for the students. They are truly remarkable in what they have overcome.

I will use the materials to create a calm down corner in my office to support in the mental health needs of my students.

I get many in crisis after an argument on campus or issue at home and would use the items to teach them basic coping skills to quickly regulate their feelings and return to their academic classes.
