This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My class is made up of general education and special education preschoolers. My students are still learning about their emotions and how to regulate them.

A calming area is an important part of a classroom.

It helps with anxiety and stress relief and overall gives the students a quiet place so they can focus on their emotions and relax.

The beanbag will provide alternative seating for students in the area. They will be able to sit back comfortably while reading one of the 8 Little SPOT of Emotion books. This opinion of flexible seating will help benefit students by giving them flexibility and a chance to relax their body.

The noise-canceling headphones will work for students who decided to enter the calm-down area due the sensitive hearing like some students on the autism spectrum. Those who will benefit from the noise-canceling headphones are

students with sensitive hearing and sensory overload who just need a quiet space.

The fidget spinners, stress balls, and Rubik's cube can help students who are overwhelmed and need an object to focus on while in the calm area. Students will be able to benefit from these objects by being able to focus on the object to relieve stress. The weighted puppy lap pad has a positive impact on overstimulation. The lap pad can bring comfort to a child, especially those who are sensitive to touch.
