Calming Area

Help me give my students a calm place to think about how they are feeling and find strategies that will work for them as they are learning to cope with daily challenges. I requested a little rolling bookshelf, flexible seating, timers, posters, and books that teach self-control.

My Project

Sometimes the safest place for a child could be in the classroom. Most of my students have not been to school because of Covid and are now starting Kindergarten. They have various learning abilities and more than anything need love, support and confidence to really help them learn and grow. They could be struggling with a new language, their own learning or making and keeping friendships. They are motivated to learn, but no matter how positive I am and my classroom is, they need their own safe space to grow. Having a safe calm place in the classroom will give my students the ability to problem solve and to learn more about themselves and what they need. As they learn to recognize and regulate their emotions, they are learning important life skills needed to be healthy and empowered individuals.

I requested materials, a bookshelf, flexible seating, a timer, posters, reusable dry erase sleeves, and calming tools, that will create a calm place where my students can think about how they are feeling and find strategies that will work for them as they are learning to cope with daily challenges.

I want them to know that it's ok to feel however they are feeling, but if it's not a good feeling then what can they do to help themselves or get help from others. I want them to have tools in their tool box, on how they can overcome their emotions in a positive way. Some of the materials are items that I will add to the overall classroom, so that our classroom is also very calming, encouraging and extra positive.
