I work with students with special needs and a variety of academic levels. All of my students are in 6th grade, however socially, academically, and emotionally they are much lower. The students are attempting to build an appropriate student to student relationships. I would love to be able to provide my students with a space that helps them build social skills and create positive relationships. My students are curious, enthusiastic, and creative; these are strengths that I would like to help them build upon.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The weighted blankets will help the students with anxiety that is associated with being a middle schooler. I received one in my first project and my students had to be placed on a rotation for who uses it. The blankets will help them feel comfortable in their learning environment. The books will be used for giving the students materials that they find interesting. I have a small library currently, but I would love to get a few series for my students to fun read. The tape will be used to help my students with creativity. Our classroom has many windows and bulletin boards. We change the bulletin boards every few weeks. The tape will let my students be more creative with their boards.
The donations to this project will help the students who suffer greatly with sensory issues and feeling comfortable in school.
Many of their behaviors come from being uncomfortable in their learning environment.
As a Special Education Teacher, I have done extensive research and reading on sensory items to help students in the classroom. My first project was a success and helped get a start to my classroom. The students were so gracious in receiving their sensory items. A few more sensory items and fun read series will help the students reset and get ready to learn! Thanks!
