This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach amazing second graders at a public school in an urban city in Maryland. My class for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year will consist of 32 children, 18 girls and 14 boys. I've heard great things about them from their previous teachers. I look forward to meeting them this fall and challenging them to achieve higher academic gains as we dive into the school year.
As the school year quickly approaches, I am requesting items that will help create an inviting, calm learning environment for my students.
My Project
This will be the largest second grade class that I've had in my 12 years of teaching. Many of my students have Autism, Asperger's Syndrome or disorders that make focusing during school challenging. Having over 20 fluorescent lights in the classroom certainly doesn't help with attentiveness or the anxiety that many of them face.
I am requesting 10 sets of fluorescent light filters to eliminate the harsh glare, flickers, eyestrain, headaches, and anxiety caused by classroom fluorescent lighting.
These filters will make the classroom space calming, peaceful and enable my students to better learn and complete daily activities. I would also like an oil diffuser with essential oils such as lavender to further create a tranquil learning environment conducive to learning.
