My Students

As an assistant in a low-income school, my students are faced with many challenges in and out of school. Regardless of their home lives, they deserve an education as enriching and challenging as any other student.

My students are creative, caring, and are developing the skills to communicate about the hardships they may face.

As curriculum and expectations for education change, it is often lower-income schools whose students suffer. Covid-19 has only compounded this problem. 50% of my schools total enrollment is diverse, while 60% are economically disadvantaged.

I love the school I work for and the students I get to work with. They display resiliency, kindness, and genuine desires to succeed. I believe my school helps solidify many of these character traits as students explore creative problem solving and navigating relationships and hardships through communication.

My Project

My students are academically, ethnically, and socially diverse. School is a safe space for all of the students.

I want to focus on building skills that students need to help them manage emotions and feelings.

Each calm down kit will include strategy cards, fidgets, coloring pages, markers, and more. These kits will be housed in each classroom so that students will be able to access them when needed.

At the end of using the calm down kit they will check in with a counselor. These kits promote management of emotions and regulation of feelings so that they are able to focus on academic achievement and learning.
