Help me give my students the tools that they need to become calm, so we can work through their stresses and fears effectively in the counseling office.
SCES is a PreK-2nd grade school, housing around 640 students. Our students at SCES are often affected by poverty and trauma. Over 55% of students at SCES are receiving free or reduced lunches and families often need help making ends meet. Students are not only affected by financial issues, but also by other environmental situations that can make life more difficult.
We have the best students at SCES who are always eager to learn and to help each other.
We are so very fortunate to have fantastic faculty and staff to aid in molding young lives.
My Project
My students would greatly benefit from a sound machine and other materials that can be used to help calm their minds and bodies in the counseling office. Fidgets and small toys to play with while they are speaking about stressful events in their lives helps students to relax and share what may be bothering them.
Often students have past trauma in their lives, and they may need help to work through that trauma.
Certain materials like fidgets, sound machines, and calming lighting is very helpful for students.
Children are not able to learn effectively, until they are able to adequately process their own stress.
