Help me give my students sensory materials! All of these items will provide a sense of calm and are specifically for kids who crave or are sensitive to tactile input.
As a School Counselor at an amazing elementary school right outside of Green Bay, WI, my job is to advocate for ALL students and their differing needs. I have students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They arrive daily with an invisible backpack full of adult issues that are completely out of their control. Unfortunately, many of these issues follow them into their classrooms, impeding their learning. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with a creative, safe, calm, welcoming, and meaningful learning environment.
My Project
Students really benefit from moments in their day to just take a break and breathe. So many of my students simply need a chance to be calm and quiet. I am hoping to create at least 20 caddies so that teachers and students have them available to them when needed.This will guarantee one caddy is in every classroom.
All of the items in my cart are tools to help my students bring a sense of calming and organizing to their bodies and brains.
So, all that squeezing can actually do more than simply strengthen little hands. It can get brains ready to learn! It is a great tool to use before students must sit and focus on a task such as writing, cutting, or taking a test. These tools also greatly aide in helping students when they feel distressed.
I will also be adding mindfulness/calming cards to every caddy so students can pick which tools help their body the most.
