My classroom is located in a small town in the heart of south west Montana. My second grade students are a very diverse bunch of learners with a large percentage of the children receiving free or reduced - price lunch.
Although my students' backgrounds and interests may be diverse, one thing they all have in common is their desire and drive to succeed and do well!
The students in my classroom are bright, inquisitive and come to school anxious to learn. It is truly a honor and pleasure to watch their emotional, social and academic growth!
My Project
The elementary years are often a combination of academic, social and emotional growth. Students often come to school with unseen heartache and unresolved issues. Academic learning will often, and perhaps only, increase when students learn strategies to self-regulate their emotions and behavior and are given the tools and space to do so. The materials I have requested will help to provide my students with an environment that is safe, soothing, comfortable and conducive to learning.
First and foremost, I strive to provide a classroom space where my students are comfortable and feel safe.
Additionally, I want to provide a "Safe Space" that is a designated calm area in which to regroup when faced with emotional challenges. Please help me provide my students with a comfortable classroom and with the resources and tools to participate successfully in their classroom, schools, homes and communities.
