My students are imaginative, enthusiastic, and bright. Each student comes to school with their own unique voice and background. Many students in my classroom have come from other countries which allow them to input diverse opinions and thoughts into our classroom conversations.
In my classroom, the students are grateful for the education they are receiving, so it is my goal to be the best teacher for them.
I hope that my classroom will provide a safe and fun place for them to go.
My Project
In today's world, there are many stressors of daily life that cause children to feel frustrated, anxious, and overwhelmed. Students are able to achieve more when they feel relaxed and comfortable. A huge part of that is the learning environment that they spend ten months a year in.
Teaching in a school with 80%+ poverty has shown me that classrooms are the main space for students to have a stable environment.
This is the place that impacts their ability to learn and succeed. Students consider this place their home and have the right to go to a place that is inviting, calming, and comfortable.
Calm classrooms can positively benefit all students despite their living situation, but it is especially beneficial to students who struggle academically, emotionally, and financially.
This project will create that space for my students and allow for them to have areas of the classroom that will be calming to them. This will provide some flexible seating for their reading corner. The pillows will provide comfort for the students as they read. The decorations will provide a calming color scheme for them. The easel will provide the students will a place to reference what they have learned. All of these things will add comfort and take away anxiety for them.
