This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have had the pleasure of working in a public school for over a decade. As the reading specialist, I work with a large group of children that struggle with reading. Although reading is a challenge, my students look forward to gathering in my room to enjoy a new story. Our staff and families work hard to provide what the can for our students. Sadly, our schools lack many of the necessary resources needed to close learning gaps. As a result, our students need extra support.

My Project

This project is focused on building reading fluency. These materials will help my students increase speed and expression through short drills and systematic practice. The textbook, Six Minute Fluency, has leveled passages for fluency skill building. My students can practice reading and reread leveled texts that match their current skill level.

Reading can be challenging; however, with high quality, research-based resources, my students can make strides towards the goal of reading on grade level.

In addition, the noise canceling headphones will keep the outside noises to a minimum as student focus on their reading. The project also includes two audio books. My students will have the opportunity to listen to fluent reading while enjoying their favorite stories.
