Due to budget cuts our little scientists' laboratory centers have been shut down. We need your help to reopen these centers. We have our little scientist crew willing to work for free and we have the space for these laboratory centers but we don't have the materials. These little scientists are kindergartners. They have highly inquisitive minds. We need your help to feed their inquisitive minds. They are like sponges! Now is a great opportunity to contribute towards this project so as to support their academic growth. In turn, they will support us as our next generation scientists.
WHO ARE WE?
We are from PS 42 Manhattan. We are located in the Lower East side on the outskirt of Chinatown. We are requesting materials for our kindergarten grade. Our kindergarten grade consists of five classes, 2 Chinese Bilingual classes, 1 English as a Second Language class and 2 Monolingual classes. In each class there are approximately 23 students. 98% of the students are Chinese. 95% of the students get free lunch and we are a Title 1 school.

HOW WILL THESE MATERIAL BE USED AND BENEFIT THEM?
Science materials will be used at different times throughout their kindergarten year. Different scientific centers will be open for them to explore, discuss, respond and have an in depth study. These science centers will tap into many different learning experiences. It will foster inquiry based learning and hands on experiences. It will help them to be more inquisitive, leading in depth studies. They will develop their language skills as they verbalize their thought process. They will learn new words that they have never heard of before. They will be inspired to further their journey into the science world.
